Definitely want to get Evil Hat there, at least in some form. Excited this is happening! You can learn more and preregister at the official site.

A Special NEW Convention For Developers and Publishers!

Double Exposure is proud to present METATOPIA, a festival of ideas and creativity!

METATOPIA is the place to unveil new ideas and new additions to existing material, and to share them with friends and peers, old and new.

Join dozens of developers and publishers for 48 hours of scheduled games, demonstrations, playtests, seminars, panels and discussions. Events will include hundreds of role playing games, story games, LARPs, board games and wargames.

METATOPIA is both a freeform exchange of gaming AND a tightly scheduled Double Exposure convention. Rather than having the gamemasters focus on the attendees, we have turned the tables and are creating an environment where the Players are there to focus on the Designers! It is unlike anything we’ve ever run before, all tied together by the top-notch Double Exposure staff, our familiar scheduling system and our world-famous Con Suite, featuring free snacks and refreshments all weekend long!

Join as a Designer for $50.00, and create your own events. Choose to include ONLY other designers, ask for random playtesters, or fill your event with hand-picked players distinguished by their portfolios!

Join as a Player for $20.00, and tell us your interests – we will match you up with events that suit you based on your wishes, and then let you fill up the rest of your festival experience with whatever you’d like!

Even if your game idea consists of three pencils and a cat, you’ll want to be at this exciting festival, where every Designer is treated as a star. Dust it off, show it off, and let your peers help you get it ready for the 2012 convention season!

So over on Seth Godin’s blog today, he’s talking about the notion of alignment — not in the D&D sense, but in the “my goal and your goal are aligned with each other”. When a company’s goal and the goal of a client/vendor/customer/retailer for that company are aligned, the relationship is at its strongest, producing consistently positive and (importantly) long-term benefits.

So, let’s set aside product specifics for a moment and talk about you and Evil Hat in general. When it comes down to brass tacks, what is the thing or experience that you want from your interactions with Evil Hat? What’s the foundation of the relationship you have with the company?

I figure the more I know what you want, the more chances I’ll find to make it the thing we want.

Go! The comments are open.

One of the tricky bits we’ve run into with the Evil Hat brand is that it’s an odd fit for our occasional flights of whimsy (so far largely by way of Daniel Solis) with things like Happy Birthday, Robot! and Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple. It ends up being a little weird to grab hold of a copy of HBR, flip it over, and see an aggressive, shark-teeth-baring evil hat glaring at you from the back cover.

Buoyed by some sales leading to stronger performance in PDFs than usual (at least for some titles), Q1 actually did pretty well by the quantity tallies, which are what I share here. Reality is we did see a bit of a fall off in actual dollar revenue — sale prices are a part of that, but also the Evil Hat webstore’s seeing a modest decline in sales. But distro stayed pretty steady, which is pleasing. I’m hoping that remains true through into Summer and beyond, because presently the numbers are compelling me to do another printing (2500 copies, likely) of the first volume of Dresden.

Added a couple columns to the high level summary this time, so you can see what the quarterly sales were like for last quarter, as well as the updated lifetime tallies.

I goofed up my spreadsheet a little last quarter, it looks like, so the overall lifetime tallies were a bit off. Here’s the corrections:

Title Correct Incorrect Adjustment
Penny 919 908 11
Diaspora 479 422 57
DLYM 1353 1353 0
DRYH 3519 3557 -38
DFRPG:OW 8006 7995 11
DFRPG:YS 9241 9232 9
Wizard Dice 1279 1278 1
HBR 406 407 -1
SOTC 6278 6277 1
SOTS 671 694 -23
S7S 1524 1542 -18

Working on tallying up this quarter’s stuff now.
