Yeah, Invincible!

One of the things I like about the art is that a lot of the characters are not idealized. Invincible gangles. His dad has the world's dorkiest mustache. Women's breasts are smaller than their heads. That and the realism of the consequences of violence - it's a reboot of how to do superhero comics, as if the relational realism of DC and Marvel over the past few decades has spread out and taken over the visuals.

Looks like what you want is Marvel Team Up 2004 v3, showing on amazon as http://www.amazon.com/League-Losers-Marvel-Team-Up/dp/0785119469/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264002565&sr=1-1

It says it contains 14-18, which looking at the marvel team up page on wikipedia, looks to be the right issues.

Huh, apparently Kirkman did a few other volumes of Marvel Team Up as well. I'll have to track those down.

I don't know if it's in those collections or not, but there's actually a Kirkman-written teamup between Invincible and Spiderman which is pretty darn cool. If you don't have it, it's in a GN put out by Marvel that also includes another very interesting story by Kirkman that you'll probably also like if you liked this.

Um...all that emphesis at the end of my second paragraph is accidently and due to my utter lack of skill with HTML tags. Noted under: things to avoid in the future. Sorry all.

Fred, for not being a regular comic book reader, you picked one of the best superhero books to read. It is definitely the way I would have liked a lot of my superhero games to run, but could never pull it off for some reason.

Now I have Truth & Justice and With Great Power... which would be better suited to the style of play you're talking about. I would add Capes to that, but only played a demo of it and don't have the game yet. Speaking of games suited for that style of play, whatever became of FATERIP?

Yeah, I understand what you're getting at, but it's not over the threshold for me. I wince a lot during the fights, though, and I don't always dwell on the images that result. Shouldn't that be the way one reacts to violence? :)

I thoroughly agree with everything you've said. However, at least for me, the highly graphic, "realistic" nature of the super-violence in INVINCIBLE has become something of a turn-off. It's fine to take a more "realistic" look at the effects of superpowers. But Kirkman's doing it so much that he's making even Willingham's ELEMENTALS pale in comparison, and detracting from his otherwise superb stories.

You have mostly reminded me that I need to catch up. I am many, many collections out of date on Invincible. Because all that up there? Yes. That.
